Hi Stoners. This post is late (sorry!). Things in my professional life have been picking up speed (not a complaint) which means less time for the pleasurable stuff. It was indeed a month of pleasure and surprises. Reconnecting with friends, comfort viewing, trying new flavours of things. Ain’t life grand? April fool’s came, but it never went as I found myself stunned and awed all month long. May has so far been dreamy and hot. My optimism knows no bounds.
In particular I wanted to highlight the few areas where I’ve been caught off guard (in a good way) that have to do with the elusive personal style. I’ve been influenced — by 00’s teen drama The O.C., bold eyewear, and colourful tights. As always you will find links to shop and gain inspiration included in this post (I have no affiliation or personal gain from you shopping these recommendations. These are truly, honestly just things I love!).
Anna Stern
Thanks to a friendly reminder from fellow Substack writer Mind Over Matter, I began my rewatch of the O.C last month. It is indeed a great piece of contemporary youth culture to indulge in before the summer hits. Watching it again after my frontal lobe has fully developed has been an experience. It has hit me like a tidal wave of nostalgia (I can’t believe I forgot some of these plot points), but also the sheer camp of how unbelievable and over the top it really is. While there is so much worth commenting on, it’s one character in particular who I really found myself drawn to.
Queue Anna Stern (Samarie Armstrong), the quirky manic pixie dream girl and one of multiple love interests that Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) finds himself tangled up with. Stern mostly appears in S1 of the show as a Pittsburg transplant who is obviously not like the other girls in Orange County. Her bold overuse of blush, tank tops layered over long sleeve tees, and love of hats are amongst many of Stern’s most memorable style moments on the show. Perhaps her most recognizable is her short and textured pixie cut which goes through various shades of blonde throughout the first season of the show.
Take a peak at these curated picks that I think a modern Anna would simply die for with links to maybe own them yourself…

Four Eyes
The eyes have it. If you have eyes like mine, it means that what you have is astigmatism 😭. As someone who has worn glasses for almost 20 years, I’ve experienced my share of styles. There was a time where I would have compared looking for a pair of eye glasses to trying on jeans. It was really that bad. Facial dysmorphia is a real thing, people!
Over time I’ve learned that having a healthy relationship with the way your face looks is just like building that same relationship with any part of your body. It’s not you, it’s the clothes. It’s not your face, it’s the glasses.
For the last decade or more I’ve gravitated towards an oversized frame. Something that really stands out against my face. So, I was pleasantly surprised when my most recent pick-up (a pair of rather narrow and oval shaped frames) turned out to be very complimentary.
Check out my new frames below plus some others I’ve been *eyeing* (get it?)…

Leggy
In an almost cyclical fashion I find myself investing in some new accessory gimmick in an attempt to breathe life into my wardrobe. Right now I’m all about tights. Coloured, textured, patterned — I’m immersed in a world that goes beyond black, control-top, semi-sheer.
Don’t get me wrong…while black is all good and well during the harsh and bleak month of February I’d prefer something a little more fun for spring. My collection is still growing as if my fondness for the lil’ sum-sum that tights have provided during routine outfit selection.
Here are a few looks I’ve recently pinned plus some links to where to steal their look…
